BJ, there is a new member applicatant waiting for confirmation. He is, (unless he changes his nams), terybke. He posted a Can cent with trails on the date, that look to be a "mile long"! You have to see it. It is on the US vaeriety forum, at CCF.

Is this an error or die variety, Yes those are lines coming down from date. I'm still clueless! Is an error worth more than a variety?

Okay People, I am confused. Yes, that is a very nice trail die, one that I have not seen before, however, I believe it is on a Lincoln cent and not a Canadian cent.

Theresa, it is a very nice find either way (Canadian or US) and if you could, I would like to examine the coin and enter it into the trail / wavy steps files (DER /DEO files). Thank you.

That blimp hangar is still a great local landmark! Did you land at the base, or just lucky to spot Moffett on a commercial flight?

On the subject of trails, do the experts have a good theory on how they're created? This must be a relatively recent development.

Hi Kurt - Yes, there is a theory in place on how these die anomalies are formed and it was recently published in ERRORSCOPE (March / April ed.). While there is some disagreement over where these are doubled dies or in a separate category by themselves, the formation of the lines as to when and how they happen seems to be generally excepted.

With over 500 separate entries into the DEO/DER files, this type anomaly seems to be increasing weekly as different dies are found. To visit the site that has this files, simply type into your browser "1986 to 2006 DEO" and that will link you to a page that has that listing. Click on the listing and you will end up in the site. The information on the site is about one year old and will be updated in the near future.

Kurt, I was there, but w/o any baggage, no ticket, and the ability to go when, and wherever I choose. No lines, and no metal detectors! I "Google"! download "Google Earth". I can get anywhere from down to about 100', to around 1000', minimum altitude. If one does any cross-country driving, and wants to get an idea of the terrain, enroute, that id the way to go.
Teresa, welcome to the forum! Your coin arrived before you did, but i was not the one that made it possible, no matter how I tried! Kurt did the honors, and the reason was to get BJ, (wavysteps2003) to see this coin. I thought it was on a Canadian cent, but, not that it has been pointed out, it is a US cent. The strenght of the trails is so strong, that I am able to see them very clearly, and couldn't wait to tell BJ. Hope you don't mind out "lifting your post"!

Dick--ah, a virtual trip on Google Earth. Isn't that a great program? I flew over N. Korea the other day without incident, looking at that "nuclear" testing site.

Kurt, I have had it on the computer for several years, (nearly since it came out). I watch a lot of the different channels on DirecTV, and they give a lot of info re our past. I watch the movement of glaciers, and the effects they left. There is so much today that we missed as kids, growing up, and leaning about our world. Yes I have been toNorth Korea, and Israel. Iraq, and Iran, checking up on my grandsons there Down Under, checking out the goldfields, and wishing I had my dry-washer there. I think I was born about 75 years too soon! BASA, and it's plans for theexpeditions to the stars, yes I was born too soon. Maybe in the next life, there will be "horizons to explore"! I'm looking forward to it! May not be any coins there, but there will be somethng to collect: Knowledge.
I'll be looking forward to something else, as well. Seeing my gellow members, and good friends.
