Hello everyone Reading the thread on the world copper area I thought I'd post a clip I bought on feebay a few months back and the seller didn't even know it was.Very minor but authenicated by anacs. Also has a rotated die that wasn't noted on the slab as seen in the scans.Paid about $75 for it.I noticed the small clip when I recieved it and sent it to anacs. This is a pic of it.I have several clipped, double clipped and a few triple clipped coins ranging from 2-25%.Mostly cents, but some nicks, dimes and a few quarters.

Ken,
I have 14 cent clips, and all were found in pocket change. They range in dates from 1910 - 1970. I also have a couple of quarters and a half dollar clip. All are pretty minor with the exception of one of the quarters that has a pretty significant 15-20% curved clip. I'll take them any way I can get them.

Here's one..
People have said "it can't be real" but I think it is because it has plating in the clip (it is a zinc cent but missing the date) and weakness near the clip. If someone went to the trouble of re-plating it and spent it that would be unlikely. Anyway that's my opinion
What do you think?

Looks like it was cut from what I can see. The metal rolls up instead of flowing away from the clip. Maybe some other images might show more.

In hand looks like it tapers near the clip and the diam of the clip looks like it would be bigger than a cent.

Ed: Look on the clip I posted. The devices fade as they get closer to the clip. I don't see that on your coin. The e is just like one that was struck on a normal coin. There should be blaksley affect on your coin as it would have moved in set up with that much of the planchet missing. Maybe more images would be convincing. Just not what I've seen so far.

Pic of the same coin obv/rev....
Does not look re-plated and it's plated in the clip.
Still not sure about it.

Ed, I have to go along with Coop. It looks "too perfect". I have not seen one, "face-to-face", but with a lot of magnification, the edges just look "too clean".

I'm hoping someone can post a major clip on a zinc cent to see how the Blakesley effect shows on it. Being that so much of the coin is missing it seems like the upset mill might not upset the coin at all since so much is missing if the upset mill rollers only press on 2 sides (if that's how it works) it seems like a coin missing so much would just align itself and pass through without being upset at all. This coin has a weak rim and it's a double rim on the obv opposite to the clip. But I have not seen any major clip on a zinc cent. If anyone has one please post it

Ed, Thanks for the post, and for bringing up the point about the up-set mill. Yes, it is very possible that a clip that big, could go thru, and not be touched. I too, would like to seemore of this scenario.

All genuine clips on zinc cents should have the edge of the clip plated with copper. That's because the copper plating is applied after the blanks are punched out and after the planchet is upset. If you see exposed zinc then it's either a fake or you're dealing with a strike clip -- a totally different error.

Mike, I agree with the plating issue, because of the plating process, it would have to be thoroughly plated. I had not heard of a "strike-clip", but it is entirely possible, particularly with the composition of the cent, presently.
Thanks,
Dick
