Hi flareup,
The three pence piece shows a die crack with extra metal flow running through the right side of the 9 in the date. Once again, there is no preminum assosiated with this type of error, although there are folks who collect more spectacular die cracks. I would not throw this coin away though. It is a very nice example of the 1943 three pence.
As far as your 1988D cent goes, the mess around the mintmark is the copper plating cracking away. This is very common in cents from the late 80s to early 90s. You need to be careful on these though. There are some late 1980s cents with the plating error AND a repunched mintmark. Take a look at the following link for an example of just that sort of thing:
Hope this info helps. I am also hoping that we'll be able to identify a real 'keeper' for you too! Take care! _________________ Bob Piazza
