the big one..

any idea as to about how many exist? i'm researching this one, i want to know more Very Happy

PCGS doesn't have it included in the pop. report for some reason, how come?
NGC has slabbed 6
ANACS -7
ICG - ?
couldn't find anything in the Heritage archives

third rarest lincoln apparently.. behind the 58, and 69S ddo's

here's one that just sold today for $1500..
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250237746262&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=015

doesn't seem to be a 'monster' but i could see it becoming one maybe? 5 figure range perhaps.. if it became a little more 'famous'

Hello,

While I don't have a solid count on these, I would estimate that no more than two dozen of these are known in any grade.

All of the specimens that I have seen (two), and all of the specimens that I have seen detailed photos of, show what looks like a die crack that extends northeast from the mint mark through the date. I suspect that this die failed at that die crack very early on in the die run, after only a couple dozen pieces were struck.

The AU specimen that sold on Ebay for $1500 was a bargain in my humble opinion.

The Cherrypickers' Guide puts a value of $6,000 on the variety in MS-63 and a value of $3,000 in AU. Those values are probably a little outdated at this point.

John

That's definitely the "big boy" for the 1970-S cents. Congratulations on being able to add one of those to your collection!!!!!

I believe there are 23 known to exsist, but I am sure there are still more out there, especially since one was just found in a roll in Sept/Oct 2007.

The guy (Mike T) that found that 69-S DDO frequents the shows around here in Michigan. I always see him with a couple rolls in his hand. Nice guy, though he would not tell me where he bought the roll or what kind it was.

so basically the story behind the 69 is what makes it so famous, which is what makes it so valuable.

they both have about the same 'mintage', and the 69 doubling is a bit more dramatic than the 70, but that 69 casts a huge shadow over the 70.. because the feds got involved and the story hit the mainstream. yeah?

makes sense

i assumed the 69 was a lot rarer than the 70.. guess not

Gription,

Did you get it yet?
How did it look in hand? What do you think it will grade?

Good luck, it's a neat one!

Cool

i don't think pcgs or ngc will slab it.. only anacs i guess. that sucks Confused what do you think?

couldn't get the doubling in the pics but it's the real deal.. thats the main thing, so.. it's pretty much the crowned jewel in my lil ol lincoln collection Cool
