I told the story in this section about an 1884 dollar that was attributed as a newly discovered 1884-O E reverse by a dealer in Chicago and when I bought the coin it turned out to be the 1884-P VAM 2, well... this seller, a well known dealer apparently has made a similar oversight. I dont see the O in the photo. My 1884 VAM 2 also has the dash under the 8.

I think what is happening is that because all the well known E reverse varieties, except the 1884, are New Orleans issues, when the 1884 shows up, they attribute it as a New Orleans issue without thinking.
