Hi does anyone have a reasonable explanation or solution for my PC shutting down twice in the last 2 days when I attempt to use my microscope. I don't understand all the jargon that comes up but when it happens, my PC comes up with a blue screen (with all kinds of technical info on it) and I have to shut off the PC manually and then turn it on again.
Thank you
Sandra

Sandra, Are you using VISTA? If so, it probabably is incompatibility! That is the MAIN reason I don't use it. One has to replace all the older periphials, for that very reason. Did it work okay before the scope issue?

I get the blue screen sometimes without a microscope, it might be something else?

Dick,
They do make drivers now for QX3 for Vista.
I saw someplace that there is one for QX5 also but I can't find the link to it.

Here's for QX3 with Vista:

QX5 says it works with with Vista (but I often heard in the past it did not)

ED, that blus screen usually means a serious conflict, either hardware, or software, (Version). They can be a Bi*** to work out!
I will have VISTA in the future, (after I ger caught up on the cents, and find my desk again)! Which means I will be able to use my QX3, as well, (with the new drivers).

Hi, I originally had Vista on this system and when I got the scope in December I found it wouldn't work. I then went to my puter guy and he took Vista off for me (have it on disc) and loaded XP so I could run the scope. There has been no malfunctions until this last week so I can't figure out why there is suddenly an issue.

Dick,

A virus or HD problem makes more sense since I'd expect hardware conflict would be repeatable. (always happen until you fix it).

The first thing I try is deleting extra files and defrag the disk.
Of course that never seems to fix it. LOL

ED, if it were the HD, yes, you would have constant problems.
In the case of hardwaere conflicts, I refer to things like a camera, microscopel items like aportable USB HD. These things are not always in the system, so when you plug it in, you have a problem. That is usually a haedware conflict. In that case one should check the resorces for the item, andchange the area where they use memory. Two things trying to use the same memory will gice many problems. The thing to do is go look at the system information, and check to see if there is a problem device. Go to programs, assessories, system tools. click ion system information, components. The components will be listed, and if any have a problem,it will say ,"this device has a problem". Then chech, same list, for problem devices. they will be noted.
You may also right-click on my computer, and then propertioes. click on, click on hardware, then, Device Manager. A list of everything will appear, and will have indicators on all components with problems. That is the erasy part. The problems are something else!

It could be an update from your vista programing that added the new changes that are scheduled in that now is making the program revert back to vista? I get update messages on my computer that are scheduled in and I check and no update possible at that time. So it may be this causing the problem. If you try the link for the vista program for the QX products that may help?

Coop, I domn't think that is the case, because Sandra had the VISTA removed, and reinstalled XP. Things were okay for several months, until last week, the stuff hit the fan.

All the more reason. Maybe a scheduled down load opened and down loaded that now made the problem. She might try checking the downloading schedule to see if this happened. Vista is plagued with problems. I know! Made the mistake of buying one and not realizing what the problems were. I've removed internet explorer and replaced it with firefox to fix some of the problems. I need now to replace the email program to their software, but just haven't done it yet. I've searched the program with two different antivirus programs and still can't get the system to work correctly yet. (Enough for my problems with vista.) So I'm leaving it from having to go into it here.

I know what you mean. I was warned about Vista, before it ever hit the market, and it has proved to be just that, a can of worms!
