1956 D RPM #8 anomaly

A person in Ebay is selling what looks like the RPM 8 with the separate D mintmark. The secondary mintmark appears to have a diagonal line through it making it look like an S.

Pretty interesting...but it definitely is not an S mintmark as the sellers hopes. What it could be is an old die scratch, or more likely, the scratches from when the technician tried to polish the die. The picture of that variety in the RPM book shows scratches in that area. Since it is a later die state, I would tend to believe they are just old die scratches.
