Wow...that is so thoughtful Carol. To those of us who have served, those words mean so much more than you can ever imagine. Thanks again!

Isn't she great? I am proud to be her friend, and proud of having served. What I am getting from the VA makes me feel humble, but proud that I was avle to have done what little I did. The heroes are those who came back, or what is left of them, that did. Those who did not return from any conflict, be it Iraq, or WWI, and all inbetween. Those are the ones to remember, and honor, this day. To them , "I salure You"!

I was thinking about this last eve as I watched Midway!

So many people gave so much over time to this country and still some are doing it today.

Carol - I thank you for remembering us; those who did services for this great nation.

Few know or can appreciate the hardships of military life and I do not mean just the person who is in the military, but all who are connected to him; wives, children, mother and father, sisters, brothers and the extended family. They all share in the hardships involved.

At times I am enraged at the aristocratic politicians (except for a few), who year after year enrich themselves with unwarranted raises, because of all the "hard work" they do, while handing down paltry pay increases to those who are in harm's way, those who are being shot at, doing and living in conditions that any member of the House or the Senate would have to be dragged kicking and screaming to do (again with some exceptions). Will it change? I doubt it; the good old boy network is to entrenched for such drastic measures. Plus, they have better things to spend money on such as "why in spring are there cross migration paths for certain birds".

Just one last thing. My first military pay check was $45.00 for the whole month and that was in 1962. Would I do the twenty years spent again? You bet I would.

BJ, I agree with you 100%. what I tried to say, and cou;dn't, you did, and very eloquently! I would like to say I retired as a chief, also, but Problems with DST, two languages, and three time zones, plus The cuban crisis, prevented me from continuing my career, so I retired as first class, and a very bitter sailor. I spent five years out of the country, before I was able to return, without wanting to do something I'd regret the rest of my life. Yes I served, and would do it again. I can only thank the time in service for saving my wife, who had cancer in 1972. She spent a lot of years, suffering with her nerves, but today, we both are here, and she is fine! I wonder how long the Navy would have let me serve, if it hadn't been for that "incident"?
