Prices for coins

Has the economy started to have any effect on the price of wheat or memorial cents? I went on Ebay last night for the first time in a long time and prices still seem very high for coins. Wheat pennies appear to be selling for 10-15 cents + shipping costs. That is insane. How many truly "unsearched" wheat cents are still out there?

And they say stuff like "unsearched by me" or "I don't have time to search this tub of cents" which are most often excuses, they should just say "don't blame me if there's nothing good"

I did visit the local coin swap today, people were mostly looking for bullion. Dealers still asked normal prices. The dealers I know said they aren't buying a lot except consignments to avoid losses. I only traded unwanted stuff

In my experience 1 out of 20 Ebay purchases may truly be unsearched. Some have been heavily picked over for rare dates and mintmarks but still have varieties. Most are completely picked over and show evidence of cleaning and no significant varieties.

I find my best coins by advertising in the paper or on Craigslist.

Just watched an auction on Ebay go for $73 + $10 shipping. They won $4.50 in wheaties from the 20's to the 50's.

That is $0.1844 cents per penny. Wow.

I recently posted the source of five rolls of "unsearched wheats, which gave me several dates that I am shory. The next order was for 10 rolls, $5.95/roll). These were as good, so I ordered 20 more rolls. I have listed the 20 rolls by date, and mint. I can post if interested. I have an order for 20 rolls, that will be in, next week, sometime. These ran 20 rolls for $100.00. Will advise. The other ones I posted have the sellers ID on ebay, (all BIN). The kast batch had 3 '089-P, and one '09-S.

Ed, It is not very pretty, but it is an "S"!
I have been off-line for18 hioud]rs, due to power outages, and many wildfires in the area. No danger here, but it could be if the wind keeps blowing. Everywhere you go, there is some kind of "nasty" thing tyhat one has to puit up with. FL; HurricanesMid- west, tornados, Ca, earthquakes, but they are not as bad as the wildfires that we get when we have the Santa-ana winds, blowing off-shore! They dry the vegitation so fast, and so bad that it is like tinder, and a spark will set it on fire!

I'm not highly surprised to see wheats selling for 10c each retail. Wholesale prices have jumped from $125 a bag to $275 a bag in just over a year. I think a lot of it has to do with the anniversary of the cent.

Chuck, I agree. what with the notice that there will be a new reverse every three months, and then who knows. I am getting them at12 cents, plus S&H IHC are the ones that are off scale! $79.00 a roll! And, one has no idea what is in the roll.

$79 per roll of IHCs is a reasonable purchase if the grade/date spread checks out. On the other hand, there are just so many junk wheats out there in the 40-50s with little collector value, imo. If avg circs are now bringing $.10, I should probably sell mine.

Kurt, I am in the firse20 rolls of wheats that I got about two years ago. I went thru them, but had no idea other than doubling to look for. Now they are being sorted by date/mint, and into rolls. Once that is done, then i can start going thru them, roll-by-roll, and see what I actually have, ( besides a ton of wheats)! At least these still have the '43 cents, along with the '09-39 dates.
