Hi gang!

I have been using a Cannon 40D for my general photography which works very well. I recently had the good fortune to be in the right place at the right time to pick up an Nikon D3 which from what I am gathering is about as top of the line as they get. At the moment I use 2 sunlight (blue) lamps for taking photographs and a copystand. My pictures usually come out satisfactory but sometimes lack the crispness that I see in others photographs. I have just ordered an 105MM Nikor Micro lens for the Nikon and at the moment am using an Sigma 105MM on the Cannon... My lighting seems like it might be the problem in some of my photographs.... any thoughts?

Thanks for the help

Here are some of my shots

Matt,
I don't see anything wrong with your pics. They are very well done! Since you have the coins, how is the color/toning stacking up to the real thing?

the color usually needs a little working on in photoshop to get it close to the natural coin.... The English piece shows that lack of crispness that I was referring too. If you look at the cent chuck photographed recently with his new camera... that is a nice crisp picture... I have yet to be able to attain a picture like that.

Matt, If I could post a picture like Chuck, or bob,Coop, or Kurt, or so many others, I'd be "in pig heaven"!

Matt: Interesting die clashes on the reverse of your coin. I could match the upper one by the beak, but could not find a match for the other to below the left wing. I'm not sure how that was done. The line on the obverse? Is that a slab scratch? Very nice looking coin to have been saved at that time in history. If would have been many days wages to be put aside then.

Coop, could that actually be a hair? The two areas are close enough to be feasable.

Be hard to deny that one. Nice find. Usually they aren't that strong. But they were using different equipment then.
