Tery,

They aren't worth a lot but they're a lot of fun to find!
Maybe a 5c folder is one of the most fun folders to try to fill (or mostly fill) from change.

Be sure to look at the reverse of your 39, that's the year with the doubled die rev that I've never found.

If you look at enough with some luck you still can find some of the silver (35% silver)wartime ones with the mintmarks over the monticello.

Maybe next you'll get a 49 to go with it Smile

As you know I see DD or so I think all the time! Actually I thought I did see it on R......Imagine that Embarassed I did scan it, tell me if I am seeing things again. That last brain cell flickers on & off like God's little lanterns in the sky at night. I"ll shoot it through the scope later. Thanks for the advice! I hadn't a clue, but you pro's always point me in the right direction, that is why I post mostly nothings Embarassed I know one of these days, I will get lucky by ya'lls advice. I'm like a sponge, soaking up as much knowlege as I can. It would be nice to actually know what I;m talking about. Actually the worth doesn't matter, but the age is really cool. Did they not have MM back then? Do you when they change from the V nickel to TJ? What years are the wartime...43-45? Any significant years that are not common?
Some many questions, so little time!
There will be a test later Razz
Thanks, Tery

The only significant variety on the 1939 P nickel is the doubled Monticello on the reverse. That means the word Monticello is doubled. I can't find a good photo on ebay at the moment. War nickels include a 1943/2 P variety. Cant find a good photo of that either. I got one in change when I was a kid. Some if not all years have RPM's. I cherried two off ebay. High grade war nickels come with nice toning sometimes.

There is also a 1942-P war nickel and the 1942 P proof war nickel is also very impressive and not all that expensive. I have one in a low tier third party holder.

Another one I'd like to find is a 1944 Henning.

It was a well known counterfiet.
Apparently someone made a bunch back then and circulated them but the fakes don't have a mintmark above the dome like other 1944s do (even P has a giant P above the dome) so if you get a 1944 without a mintmark it's probably a "Henning".

Teri, the nickel was changed in 1913. There are both "V" nickels, and Buffalo nickels with the 1913 date,. You will find the Type 1, and typt 2 buffalosin the early tyears, The mound was changed because it wore so badly. The "war-time" nickels all have the "P", "D", and "S" on them.
While yo are at it, keep an eye oopen for the S/D, in the '54 nickel. (Could be D/S, I don't remember. i'll have to dig it out, and post a picture.
Finally "P" has always been a "stand-out", because the "P" wa not used on cents until very late in the century. I think it might have been somewhere artound themid '70's. Don't quote me, however.)

I have a Henning I got in a lot on ebay years ago. I tried to turn it into the Secret Service -- they never called back. Apparently it isn't a big concern for them.

If you are interested, the #2 early proof jeff set in the NGC registry is mine. It looks like somebody is very close to knocking me down to #3. I've been #2 for over 2 years.
