Just checking to see which price guides are the most commonly used among our members here. These are all printed periodicals that come out several times per year. This poll is NOT for online price guides.

I am also looking for volunteers who subscribe to one (or more) of these guides and can help update price tables for use on coppercoins. These price tables will be in excel format, and we will be storing values for Lincoln cents only. About three months ago I started keeping the data and found that it generally takes 2 hours or so to enter the data for each guide...so I'm asking for about two hours a month.

Chuck, I get coins, coin prices, coin values , (MAGAZINE), and also Trends, Canadian Coin News, which obviously is not OUR copper coins. My question is: Due to my vision problem, would you be able to use the price listing, if it were emailed, or otherwise sent to you? No "viris" includded, (I have it, picked it up just before Christmas, and can't seem to get rid of it. No fever, just a "runny nose")!

I edited the subject and question.

My point was in asking which price guide people used for Lincoln cents. I'm not really concerned about any other series right now. The purpose for this is to use the data to formulate a price guide for Lincoln cent die varieties based on a price guide for regular coins (among other things).

One has to be careful, though, because recently, one of them, (coins, or coin prices) came up with a "high "9", and a "low "9", in the 1960 large date/small date printing. No high/low Nines!

Hi Dick,Happy New Year,I think they were referring to the high 9 being the large date coin and the low 9 being the small date(coins mag).

Actually everything will be tied to a central table with coins arranged by coin ID numbers, and the records for all the price guides will be averaged into the coin IDs. It's actually rather simple to a programmer, but difficult to explain. Anyhow, I will have to formulate the base files that will be used as templates to fill in the blanks with numbers.

Another area that one would have to be careful with if the above weren't true is that some price guides list the 1909 cent first, others list the 1909 VDB cent first. With coin IDs attached to each line in each file, the correct issues will be pulled every time as long as the price guide magazines don't change around the order in which they pull their data.

Chuck, will the EXCEL format follow the whitman folder? I ask, because I believe they go '09 VDB, '09-S VDB, '09-P. '09-S.
That is the same way it is listed in Coin Values Magazine. The "VDB group", is separate from the rest. I just checked the others, and they all seem to be pretty well the same. Then it follows thr normal listing. Thanks,
Dick

I often use the PCGS guide but I try to think of the grade they would give it.

The guide I hate is greysheet!
So many times I look at cents in shows and dealers try to parrot the greysheet price. The prices are often way higher than market and different for buy/sell. On top of that the dealers often try using the greysheet with highest prices not the current one. Bottom line is they parrot the sheet and I offer way less (maybe 30%) and if they look insulted they keep the coin!

Does anybody use Numismedia online. I thought they had a nice breakdown but I'm no expert on the accuracy of the prices. They seem to keep them well updated???
