BJ, I didn't get to the feedback, but the first thing I saw was what was being offered, and then who,! Seeing the "score", was enough for me. I wouldn't touch that tith a 10KM pole!

This tired argument is common, when someone compares a coin to a market tested rare or scarce coin and says that my coin is underpriced bacause the mintage is unknown, maybe 500, and the 1909 S VDB has a mintage of 484,000. So therefore at some point my coin, a 1960 D/D in this case, will surpass the '09 S VDB in value. The missing link to this twisted logic is demand.
I would like to say to this guy, did it ever occur to you why you have 163 of this variety? Assuming for a minute that every one of those coins is what he says it is.

All this auction does is quantify an arguement to support LOWERING the value of this variety. It shows how someone with a little money can buy a bag of 1960D cents (for under $100), and luck into this die, and luck into it by the hundreds. NO die variety from 1960 is safe from a market glut where thousands upon thousands could exist in unsearched material. 1960D is the MOST saved BU cent in existence for many reasons, the date size change being the largest reason.
There are but very few 1960 die varieties that have never been found in bulk that have any bearing on the market - the 1960 proof doubled dies, because they were never offered in bulk...the 1960D-1MM-004 which is still scarce and found in very small quantities...and up until now the 1960D/D Sm/Lg date which was never known in quantities above 10 or so coins.
Basically the person selling this bulk quantity at once is shooting himself in the foot. If these were found in a bag, it's likely that the owner has at least double the quantity offered in the auction by logical numbers and by experience in doing this sort of thing.
I have hundreds of some die varieties, but would NEVER publish which ones, even if I needed money and needed to sell them. I would instantly kill my own market for them. This SAME thing happened a couple of years ago when someone offered hundreds of 1961D-1MM-001 for sale at once. The sellability of that variety went immediately in the toilet and still hasn't completely recovered.

All those flips but not one close up.
In the listing they keep saying they are all D/D but don't always say they are all small/large.
They won't sell like that and if they did it would be very cheap and ruin the market for them.

Hello All
Lets not forget 1960d-1MM-011 ive been trying to find that variety for a long time with no luck. It seems not many people have it. There was an article in the hub awhile back on how to spot it but no luck here

Hi Dick
Thats kind of what the article in The Hub indicated but i went through a whole bunch of unidentified 60d rpm's and no luck here. The Hub had alot of information on the die it was in Vol 1 edition 2. It has pickup points for 2 die stages

I've seen an image in the RPM book, but I question it as it appears as damage. So until examples are posted with better images, I've given up on this one. I think the die number should be replaced.

Eric,
if possible could you share the information you have with me through the use of a copy machine and snail mail? I have eondered for years whether I might have at least one of those. I have well over a hundred 1960D unidentified RPMs.

Coop, I completely agree. My opinion about that RPM is that it is damage. I still don't have one in my collection, can't find any references on it, and the picture of it in the RPM book seems to point towards a damaged coin.

The sad part is that no one I've come in contact has one, but one claims to have sold a few copies a few years ago. So I wonder if he made the discovery of this die number.

I add : "Images by ???? all the time on images and haven't had a problem with it. I would think the image would add interest in their work.
