After a 7 year hiatus from coin collecting (my marriage), I've been going through what remains of my coin collection, plus adding to it.

Last night, I found in a stack of misc. stuff, a 1999 wide A M. I think it may have been struck through grease, which was the reason it had been set aside to begin with. The 199 is visible, but only the top of the last 9 is barely visible.

I'll take a picture tonight and post it. I'm wondering if that is going to adversely affect the value of the coin. I don't remember if the coin had other issues (it was late when I came across it).

The thing is, I'm certain I had 3 or 4 of the 1999 wide A M coins at one point. I remember searching through my pocket change in 2000 when the 2000 wide A M became known. Nearly every 2000 in my pocket was a wide A M and I had 3 or 4 from 1999. I remember this distinctly as I thought that the 2000 couldn't really be a big deal because there I had a hand full, plus some from 1999 as well.

I believe I set them aside anyway. Just hoping that the wife at the time didn't spend them.

It's just a coincidence that the coin I have now had something else about it that caused me to keep it. If I did set the others aside, I may have a nice stash tucked away somewhere. I found a box of pennies in 2x2's this morning that I can't wait to get home and look at. It is my last hope of finding those remaining wide A M coins I found. Otherwise, either the ex spent them or I didn't set them aside as I hope I did.

Finding so many in my pocket made me think at the time that they couldn't be that special.

Fingers crossed. Let y'all know tonight.

During my lunch break, I was looking into the wide A M coins and discovered that 1998 has one as well. Didn't know that.

Now I can't be certain if this is a 98 or a 99.

The coin has other issues, with the black spots, but I had hoped that wouldn't be a big problem. But now with maybe not being able to determine the date as well...

But I think the coin must have been struck through grease, as In God is missing from the motto, as well as most of the last digit of the date.

Can you get some better pics of the date?

That is a "9".

I'm thinking it may be a 1990.

Like Chuck does, check the reverse. I used magnifier, and I see theSW portion, faintly, of the loop on the "9". That is the externt of my ability. Now Chuck, on the other hand can tell you the date from the reverse. I don't know if he keeps a log of each of these minor changes, as they occur, but it sure would help. I go by the Designers initials, and only then, if I can see them well enough. The insert is the only thing I base my opinion on. I could be mistaken. It wouldn't be the first time.
BTW, we had a nice small hail and rain storm this afternoon! It rained like a cow peeing on a flat rock!

Not to be the bad news barer, however, the coin shown is definitely a 1990. The one oddity of this date is that the 0 in the date sat higher than the two 9s.

The picture clearly shows the incomplete loop seen as being higher.
