If you're having trouble attributing die varieties, remember a few things:
1. If your die variety has a mintmark, regardless of whether the die variety is ON the mintmark, the position of the mintmark with surrounding devices is a VERY important clue as to whether you have one die or another.
2. The spread of the doubling and the intensity of the doubling must be exactly the same as the doubling in the photos of the die you are trying to attribute. That's one thing out of the entire life of the die that never changes.
3. Die markers aren't always 100% consistent - don't rule one out just becase you don't have all the markers shown. I typically try to get at least half the markers to match up well, then if the spread is the same and the position of everything is the same, I feel comfortable calling the shot.
More later...good luck finding the goodies, and have fun!
