After the "great showing the first '09 Reverse, tuned out tobe "NICE for the TV sellers, and the few that were able to go to the "Face value " giveaway. Then they cut production for the secoind Reverse, Not happy with that, now the rest of the years production will amount to about 1.5 billion for each of the two remaining Reverses! To make matters worse, the banks wont order cents, "because we already have too many on hand"! Talk about biting the hand that feeds you! I cancelled my Proof sets, mint sets, Silver quarter sets, and the silver proof, amd mint sets I will not but another coin of any category from a "business" that is that "corrupt"!
Please excuse my explosion, but I have had it with the mint!
Maybe I will get better service from the Bank of China, and the Cehinese mint(s)!

I always tried to get a few cent rolls each year but I decided from the end of memorials (2009) I will only put a few in books and extras in a jar. I won't go out of my way to get anything beyond 2008. It seems a good cutoff date.

Ed, I agree. It looks like 2008, will be the end of the LNC cents, as a collection. I might try to get a box of the "next" kind, but not go out of my way to do it. 2009 is a bit over-doing it. Too many sellers, with an "IN", and not enough consideration for the "Collector". If it were not for the collector, why would there be proof, or Mint sets? Why all the extra types of coins that go for fancy prices? Why coins, period? Just make the bars, out of the bullion, and sell them? Nothing but "business" coins would be present, if it were not for the collectors, in any country!

this was on npr, national public radio, today...
copied from the npr web site...
"The U.S. Mint will make 3 billion coins in 2009 — a 70 percent decline from the 10 billion produced in 2008. It will be the smallest run in 50 years, and the retail economy is to blame.
Moy says there's something else going on, too — it appears more people are cashing in the coins they've saved at those counting machines near the grocery checkout counter."

"So in addition to low economic activity, there's an increased number of coins coming back into the banking system, which means that the banks need less coins from the Mint," says Moy.

Collectors are excited about the production slowdown, since scarcity boosts a coin's value — a 50-cent roll of Lincoln Bicentennial pennies is selling on eBay for up to $10.
