Odd bag of coins I'm going through. I would say that at least 1/4 of this bag is Mall Pond coins that are so bad there is no need to even look at them. First a nice Trail die coin and now this.

Very nice pictures here too! Not a bad variety to pick up along with the 'mall pond coins'. Sometimes, the beauties hide in with the ugly guys.

I'm not sure what a "mall pond", is, but I suspect it might be the coins that are tossed into a small fountain. Correct?

You got it Dick. Must be the chemicals they put in the water to keep it clear. Some of the coins are just as black as night, and those that haven't been in to long have a dull copper color and pitting all over.

"Mall Pond coins". I guess that would account for the look that some I have seen. they look like they have been in water, or extremely high humidity, most likely the former. they are so crusrted over that there is no use even trying to det rid of the crud, etc. now I know what probably hasppened. Learn something new each day, and that day is not wasted!

Looks to be at least 65 red. A nice find for 14 years post-issue.
