Like I said in an earleir post, I have my kids on the hunt for me and my daughter in Michigan called today to say she found 4 bankwrapped rolls and is sending them to me. She said she might be able to get more too. Yahoo. Can't wait to see them.

Your too funny Dick.

here are the numbers I got for the 1st round Birthplace design.
350 million D's
268 million P's

Last time numbers looked like this was the 1968-S (261 million) and the 1958-P (255 million)

The difference isn't that much, 82 million less P's but those coins, rolls, boxes etc are selling for about 3X the D's.

At least that's what I've noticed.

rock, the numbers are good, and I have a bunch of each type. The thing is that the mint has gone "ape-****", and thinks it should get "royalties" on all the cents made. Just looking at the amounts, tells me, we all should have a few of them, and not even have to look for them!

The thing that needs perspective is that the 1958-p and 1968-s are still cheap coins even though later issues have higher mintage and they weren't hoarded as much as these 2009 cents.

The reason that we don't get 2009 coins in change is because every bank is overloaded with coins and there's no need to ship new ones. Most banks are shipping extras back to the reserves instead of ordering new coins.

Some other examples, look at the 1983 quarter prices. They're high partly because there were no mint sets that year but mostly bad economy slowed the release and bad economy kept people from saving rolls.

Then look back to 1932, they barely needed to make quarters so the few 32-D and 32-S quarters are the key quarters then in 1933 they didn't make any quarters at all. It was caused by the depression, few coins were needed. Look at all the cents from that time, 31-32-33 are all low mintages and that 31-S was the lowest. Not even one million 31-S cents were made, 886,000 total mintage... that's a total face value of $8,860 worth of 31-S cents.

Well, there is the good possibility that when the economy gets back to normal, the 2009 coins will start flooding the banks and out into circulation. if that happens, so be it. I'll have 4 rolls, not 400 and I didn't spend $155 for $25 worth. I think what makes this a little different though from the previous low mintages is the unique design on the reverse. That might keep some of the value up with the low mintage numbers.

You can't go wrong getting them at face value. I'd be happy to get a roll from the bank at face. Maybe if I had 4 I'd sell 3 while the price is up and use it to fund other coins.

The other denominations of 2009 coins probably won't get hoarded as much, maybe rolls of them will do better over time like the 83 quarters.

It would be nice to get a few '09 cents, just to see if they have trails. Yhey have been reported. on BJ's site.
Now the 31-s, is hard to get, yet I have 4 of them. Nothing fancy, but a 31-S is a 31-S!

I'm still looking for a 31-S. I'll eventually breakdown and buy one. I'm happy to get the 2009's and will check for trails.
