There is a seller on ebay, (here we go again), who has a 1909-S IHC for auction, and says the A"upper part of liberty is strong", or words to that effect. My question is how can that area be strong, and the lower part of the word be worn. Isn't the highest relief in the area stated, of the headband?

Not sure but even if it looked right I think it's too risky to buy raw key coins on ebay.

I agree! Did you notice the report in the coin news re the millions are being lost, due to counterfeit coins being sold on the intwernet, and at flea-mart, and swap meets. It gets scary!

Judging by my IHCs here, I have a few which are around F15 and the lower part of LIBERTY is blurred while the upper is more defined. I think the lower headband border is slightly higher, because that will flatten into the hair and letters at F15. Confused

Let's see a link to the auction, and we can grade the coin. Very Happy

I can't define details, like before, so It was a comment. Anyway, the coin is about what he said it was.

Dick,
It's good to see that coin--that's one of the better pics on eBay for a 09-S. Very Happy His VG+ plus grade is conservative, compared to Rick Snow's F12:
Quote:
All letters of LIBERTY must be partly visible,
though they need not be entirely legible.

I'd call that an F12 easy. The S appears to be in the right place--but that's something to closely check.

Kurt, I agree. That is the second thing I checked. I cheated, and used my "Zoom-Text" to produce a very large picture, without diastortion, and all looked good. my only concern was the heuight of the relief in the upper Liberty area. I'd like a wheelbarrow full of those. it wouldn't be outstanding as far as face, but you can be sure I would be smiling all the way to the bank!

Ed, I get the impression, that you did not get the link I sent you, re this '09-S. i think my browser forgot to put a "1" where it belongs, and another Eagames got the email.

Dick,
Yep...this coin is above the average circ IHCs out there. It's very tough to find one like this before 1880. Nice when dealers undergrade IHCs. Very Happy
