I am looking for some information to help me make my searches more successful. I read Chuck's section in his book on how to sort out raw coins which was a great help. Now I am looking for an electronic list of know errors by year and mint. I have started to put together a color coded sorting template to help me focus my limited time searching to the known varieties. I know part of the fun is trying to be the first to discover one but I am trying to build my collection by finding and attributing known die varieties. I would rather not search 300 1950 pennies looking for nothing vs. searching 1960 D's for one of the many RPMs available. Is there a list available on the web ?

As far as matching photos and description for known varieties, this is it.

Chuck is doing the best he can to add more but it takes time. As for other deniminations your probably out of luck unless you spend a fortune on books. Follow the money, Books can be profitable, pictures on the web are for the most part free to the viewer. If you had a hard drive large enough I guess you could collect photos off the web for a couple of years and assemble your own listings but I doubt thats the way you want to go. Its all a learning and building process. Good Luck

Rollmeupabe: You're probably looking for something like this:
http://www.coppercoins.com/edit/alldieinfo.php
but you will miss some of them using that list because there are over 300 different dies known to myself and Bob (because we have them) that have not yet been added to the site.
You mentioned 1950? There's a nice DDO known for that issue. You really can't just go through what's "known" and sort out the dates that have nothing known...you'd be chunking no more than two dozen different dates and mints anyway.
Memorial dates/mints with nothing of merit (nothing worth messing with) known to date:
1967, 1973P, 1977P, 1977D, 1978P, 1978D, 1979P, 1981P, 1992P, 1993P, 1998D, 1999D, 2000D, 2001D, 2002D, 2003D, 2004D.

Thanks Chuck. This is the info I was searching for. I use a legal size sheet of paper with a template to sort before searching. What I am doing is highlighting on the sheet the years and mints that have a lot of identified opportunities. Skipping some of the years/mints like the memorials you noted may cause me to miss something no one else has reported but due to time constraints I would rather have success finding known varieties. The energy created by finding one keeps you motivated to find the next one.
Once I fill in the template I will send a copy to anyone else who would find it usefull.

Chuck, I beg to differ!!! lol!
Billy Crawford has discovered a 2004D doubled die reverse (a nice one he says, but he still hasnt described it), and he will be making an article on it in the Numismatic News.
Also, a 1993 ddr wavy steps cent is known.
I think you should keep your eye out for post 1997 cents, since many could have new doubled dies since people have only started to search for them recently after after the 2001 ddo cent discovery.

That's nice, Gabe....but if it hasn't been published by whomever knows about it, how am I supposed to know about it? Secondly, I made the statement then clarified that the dates listed do not have anything of much value in them if anything. Wavy step DDRs are not of much value.
Also, Rollmeupabe asked for the dates with known die varieties. He would rather look for what's listed than look through a bunch of pocket change to make a discovery. Post-1997 cents have very little in them as far as good stuff that's known to exist other than the wide AM cents, all of which are P mint.
I agree that looking at everything is the best way to go about it, no doubt about that. But when someone asks a specific question I prefer to give them a specific answer to their question rather than argue what I think is right.
