I tried to replace my avatar picture a week ago, and was able to delete my old picture but not able to upload a new one. I keep using jpg files, but I keep getting a message which says that only a couple of file types are accepted, and jpg is one of them. Any help?

Since the crash a while back a lot few things aren't working correctly. Try again when the system is restored. Not sure when that will be yet, but its coming....

It has to be within certain size constraints and filesize constraints as specified when you upload. Other than that, the filename has to be lower case, and the image has to be the proper type for the filename (in other words, don't try to upload a GIF image with a .jpg extension).

The program that does the check looks to see that the extension matches the header of the file, that the dimensions are the right size, and that the file size is correct. If all that checks correctly, the upload should work.

The same file I uploaded last time is in my pictures. I double click it so it is not a spelling error and the size is the same. The message comes back it must be a jpeg etc. but it is a jpeg.

edit to add:

Dimensions: 100 x 50

Type: Jpeg Image

Size: 4.24 kb

I tried to upload one from my computer myself Chuck, and it wouldn't go. I double checked the image size, and everything else the site requires, but still no go. I will try to upload the pic to my site and see if it will be picked up with the URL format. I'll let you know how it goes in a bit.

OK....I got it to work, but only with using the URL format. If you guys have personal web space anywhere, and you want to upload your avatar, just copy the file you want to use to your webspace. Then go back to your profile and use the load avatar using the URL format. Your input line might look something like this:

http://home.mywebspace.net/yourname/myavatar.jpg

There are many different types of webspace out there, but if you can get it there, you can have the option of loading it right to your profile, or adding it to the avatar library so it doesn't get lost any more.

One more thing....if after trying it the way listed above, and it is still a pain in the butt, you can send me your image (email it to mustbebob1@earthlink.net), and I will put it in the gallery for you. Please send a short note as to who you are, and don't mind the response you will get from my spamblocker saying it can't be delivered. I can get access to it after it is scanned.
