You don't need to get rid of anything - I have both and they both work on my computer. If you have any version of windows on your system, you already have internet explorer.

For the latest Firefox (Mozilla) browser, go here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/ie.html

For the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer go here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx

Dick,

When you load the new Firefox it asks if you want it to be your default browser. If you say no your old browser or IE will still be used except when you click the icon and launch it.

Thank you both for your help. I went to the link, ( the lower one, IE-Cool, and when i tried to download, I was informed I am already using IE-8! I don't know how, or when. I don't use "Netscape, neve have. I don't like it.
Ed, on the firefox, I downloaded it, but it has never been installed.
My problem began when i reied to get replacements foe my DD-214's. for some reason they said i was using mozilla-4. i didn't know it, and never would have installed id, knowingly. I have always used IE-X up to IE-7. I believe IR-8, hav problems with compatibility, with some equipment, and/or drivers. I tried it when it first came out, and crashed several tines, until i got rid of it. I have avoided "Vista" for the same reason. I don't know if I'll go to windows 7, or not. The main reason being, i would have to spend a LOT of money, to get the diggerent peripherils. That is out of reach, and with our "Dear Leader screwing the retirees by cutting the COLA for two years, we are automatically put three years behind the rising costs of living! We normally have to play "catch-up", as it is, being given the small increase, after the fact. Having it cut for two years will cause a big hardship on the large majority of the retirees, unless they change to a cheaper way of life. My pension is very small, and the gross income is below the poverty level. Withoout COLA, we are going to have it rough. The advantafge we do have is the VA. Other than co-pay, (depending on the income level) we don't have to pay for the attention we receive there. my only regret is that the spouses are not also covered. They served their spouse, while the spouse was serving their country. I don't know about other HMO's but O don't recommend Kaiser-Permanente to anyone! my wife pays a LOT of money every time she visits, and tthey haven't found out what her problem is, yet, but they very happily accept the hundreds of dollars each visit!
As Usual, I drifted! AAADS must have some actual basis.
Going abck to IE, everytime i am prompted to make it my browser, I accept, wondering at the same time, "how did it get changed"??? These things are complicated enough, without the "spontaneous
" changing of things!
Thank again for your info. I'll act accordingly, and load the souble-barreled shot-gun, in case i see the "beast' again.

Okay...some clarification for you.

Firefox IS Mozilla, and the current version is 3.6

Netscape doesn't exist any more.

IE stands for Internet Explorer...that's Microsoft - not Netscape. Current version is 8.

Once IE-8 is on your system, you cannot remove it. If you've had it, you still do.

Chuck, I agree. what i don't understand is how i happened to have the Mozilla. when i tried to obtain the record od my service, The site imnformed me that with Mozilla -4, it was incopmpatible with the site, and I would have to download a form, and do the "pony express route.
I prefer "State of the Art Techniology, wher available.. I have learned to use the IE, in the last year, or so, since you recommended i learn. I find there is advantages using it, however the problem with my vision makes it much easier to use the AOL Toolbar, with the icons for the different sites i visit most frequently. The text is the actual problem, due to my not being able to increase the size, in m,ost cases, unless I go to my "Zoom-Text' application, then i can make it as large as necessary. There is a limit to the usefulness, because sometimes it can be just too big to use, or vice-versa. It boils down to what ever works is what will be utilized.
Again, thank you for your responses.

On any one of the newer browsers you can click "help" then "about" to find out what browser and version you are using. It might help to know for sure what you are using because it sounds like you might not know.

Another thing - you can call the people you're trying to get records from and have them explain why their website is not W3C compliant, and ask them for an alternative means of getting those records.

Hi Chuck! I tried several times, even after doing as you suggested, but no luck
However, there is an alternate, and I used it. It in effect amounts to filling out a form, (which incidently, cannot be stored on the computed, when filled out) It is like the network HD in college, where you can do your typing, but you have to print it out. You can't save it to the HD. I have one of those HDD, and am trying to figure out how to "bust it"so i can use the "edit untitled"activity. I spent f hours during the night, making an inventory, of the fe/ihc in my folders, and when I went to "save as", no path to C:\! I later thought about pringing it out, but it was gone.
I filled out the form, and printed it, SIGNED it, and it is in the mail.
FWIW, the DD214, and other recorda are free for the asking, but you will find the "greedy ones" who will do the work, and all for only $89.00!
The only thing is it hs to be the vet, or a family member, or authorized rep.
Now foe the browser! Yes, you are right, I don't know whic one, nor when it is the "default". I say default, but I don't change it, knowingly, and when asked if I want such, and such to be the default, I choose IE6, or IE7. I tried IE8, and had problems until it was completely removed. In fact, I had to format the HDD to clean it up!
Thank you for your assistance, and suggestions. It is very much appreciated, even if I am not "computer litterate" enough, to take full advantage. I would love to obtain a course in computer "operation", so as to be able to do what I should know how to do, but never had the chance to learn. Yes I build, and repair, but that is about the size of it. 73

Dick
Check with the eligability department at your local VA hospital. Some VA Hospitals will see spouses under Champ-VA. There are two here that wil, but they are just to far for me to take my spouse. One is in Baltimore and for life of me can't remember where the other one is, but it is in PA north of me about 4 hours.
So that is something you might be able to look into.

Dave, IO was just there, yesterday, in the low-vision clinic/Therapy, to check out a new CCTV system reader, and had the choice of either of the two yhey have. The one i have currently is the CRT type, and is very builky. the new onw is much lighter, and has a couple more inches space in the viewing area, so it will be much better.
I am a little leery of the "champ" part of that! I used "champus" years ago, when in AZ, and had to take the XYL to ER. It cost me nearly $1500.00! She has K-P, (Kaiser-Permanente), and it is outrageously high.!
I can check when I go the 14th, for surgery. I'll have to wait until aftwer i wake up, tho! LOL.
Chuck, that "Network HDD situation was resolved. I hit it with a maxtor formatting system, and it is nice and "docile" now!
It has become my photo database HDD.
Takme care, and tghanks for the info. 73

Dick,

Seems outrageous to me that servicemembers, retirees, and their family benefits are being reduced like you say. They should be increased.
I am ex-USN but not retired. Nor disabled.
But reading your posts, and that of the other members here, I wondered if I might add that if you want to, you could try uninstalling Mozilla Forefox. I use firefox, and just checked in "Add/Remove Programs" in "control Panel" and it would appear you could uninstall it.
That could give Internet Explorer more freedom or ease of use.
I am not an expert computer user, but have been a user for years, and am willing to help if I can.

Phil
