I smoke...I know, nasty bad habit, blah blah blah...anyhow...
My usual sitting place for my nasty habit is a bar stool pulled up to the chest freezer in the garage...coffee and something to read sitting on the freezer, dog at my feet, birds chirping, etc. Odd enough that I own my house, live in it alone much of the time, and STILL will not smoke inside. I don't like the smell of it - fancy that.
Yesterday morning I sat at my usual sitting place for my coffee and pre-work smoke and saw that my son had brought the mail part-way inside. It ended up on the chest freezer where I sit for a smoke. Next to the mail was a copy of "Coins" magazine that had sat there for about a week untouched. I cracked it open and began to read.
Much to my surprise and amazement, when I reached page 20 I found a full-page article about me and my 2005 book, "Looking Through Lincoln Cents." Now here was not only a book review of a book published years ago (not sure I get that), but a book review being "discovered" for the first time by the author of the book as a geneal subscriber of the magazine.
Does it not make sense that the author of the article might want to contact the author of the book he's reviewing for a "hi, howya doing...and by the way..." before publishing the article? Maybe a couple of comments by the book author to be inserted as "exclusive interview" quotes by the magazine.
Don't get me wrong here - I appreciate the review and the exposure, and was pleasantly surprised to see the article. I just feel a bit odd about having discovered a full page of a magazine dedicated to my work without ANY prior notice. Makes me seem like the fool when I don't even know there are articles about my work out there.
I guess this is the main reason why I subscribe to ALL the coin magazines - I never know when my name might just pop-up and I never knew it was going to be there.

That is a good one Chuck. I know how you feel for my name pops up infrequently in places that I do not know of. The best way to get a handle on it is to Google your name and see what comes up.
