This mintmark doesn't have notching (to the best of my ability to see) but seems to have a second vertical bar and extra thickness.
The date shows a bit of MD, but it doesnt match the appearance of the mintmark.

1989 is full of teasers.
There's a lot of them with MD or ghostly looking doubling maybe from die erosion and they often have torn plating.

Yours has tears in the plating so some zinc shows through. Sometimes oxide grows along the tears making raised areas. After moisture and time they get get a hole.

Here's some more of them:

Yes, I saw the stretching/tears of the plating.
Your examples are very interesting, thanks for taking the time on that.
I have seen a few others like the one I posted, I hadn't been organized enough before to post any. Now I can put them in a known category, keep the best one to compare new ones to for rejection.
Have a good weekend.

1989 holds its share of "guessers" - not sure whether they are or not.

The original coin posted in this thread is interesting, but it would take some multi-angle examination to tell whether this is really repunching. Just not sure...

I have been pretty tied up with things and surprised to see I had some email notices for new comments, thanks.
I agree that more shots with lighting angles would probably help, I think Ill dig it up and try.
