Found a 1996 with distinct doubling on the first 9 in the date, but no doubling in LIBERTY or in VDB. And no other doubling that I could find anywhere on the cent.

Murphy- there is 1 doubled die obverse that I know of, and that is 1996P-1D0-001. The doublig you describe in your coin does appear to be similar to that of the doubled die, but a better pic is needed to confirm that. Maybe someone else can help you.

Hi again Murph,
Gabe is right in that what you describe could be one of the few 1996 doubled dies. As he stated, we need a better pic...with possibly a close-up of the date. Die # 1 shows separation lines on the left side of the lower loops of the 9s and on the left side of the lower 6. All known 1996 doubled dies have a very close spread and do require careful examination in most cases to pick out the varieties.
