One of these sold in a Stacks auction for $27,600
It's black plastic.

1942 pattern cent. J-2059, P-unlisted. Rarity-7-. MS-61 (NGC).



I wonder how these got out of the mint?

I think 1942 was before the invention of the prison-like jumpsuits without pockets.

In the auction description they said it was "an ebony color" made of black plastic.

Sort of funny that back then they decided plastic was no good but then today plastic credit cards have taken over Wink
