Hello Everyone,

I've been doing a lot of reading and researching on the internet these days regarding US Coins and my coin collection. I have a lot of everything when it comes to pre 1964 coinage, but the more I get under the microscope the more skeletons come out of the closet.

For example, 1898 Indian Head Penny.

I Know, I need to post a picture and I'll do the best I can later on, but I figured I would throw this out there while I'm at work.

Has anyone seen an 1898 Indian Head Penny that has the tail of the "9" almost hitting the loop to wher it almost looks like an "8" or a "0". It's very interesting. I wasnt sure if that may be some sort of a die variety / error or if it was common.

Hi Mike, welcome. I am in Chicago too. Let us know what you collect..

I think all Indian cents have the closed loop on the 9. Here is Chuck's photo of my 1908-S, for example.

Welcome aboard, MikeS3!
You are in good hands, and you might check out the Fly-in-Club, for more info on the FE/IHC.

Outstanding, thanks for posting that example. Just checking all corners. Are you strictly a collector? If you dont mind me asking where about in Chicago are you? I actually live in Batavia, IL. Trying to purchase a home with the wifey in South Elgin area.

Thanks for the warm welcome Dick. I must say. I like the idea of sending an email in order to get registered. That way you dont have trolls sprawling around all over. Good thinking on that. I've never had to do that in the past, but awesome ideas.

As far as collecting goes I'm a hoarder when comes to silver, copper & gold. I love my seated liberty coins as well as small & large cents. I collect it all. A little of everything, but I have to go through them all and study the Die varieties and what not. I have my hands full for a while

That will be fun to search through, maybe as fun as getting the stuff in the first place if you find some varieties in it now.

Welcome. Very Happy

MikeS3, I agree! The fact that many places make it very hard for one with a visual, and/or hearing problem, is the "BOT-BUSTERS". the idea is good, for the purpose, but, it does discriminate against those with the problems I mention, and if they had an alternate method, susch as an email QSO, then, there would be no complaints. I am not alone in this position, so I know of what I speak.
That is why i am still, and will always be a member of this forum, unless i 'tee" Chuck, off, and get booted! It is my "other home"!

Hi Mike, I am in Niles, the first suburb northwest of Chicago. I collect all sorts of coins, anything that catches my interest. You mentioned Seated Liberty coins. I study and have a short set of Carson City silver dollars.

My latest coin purchase was a 1787 New Jersey copper from Stack's New York Americana post auction sale. The price was very reasonable. I still haven't received it. Here is their photo.
