Any thoughts or opinions? It sure looks like a winner to me from Billy Crawfords photo! Question too is what is it worth? I predict it will hit $500.00 plus.

The shape of the secondary (supposed) S doesn't match. I don't like it for a secondary punching. Exactly what it is I don't know, but the shape of that curve doesn't match anything on the primary mintmark.

Being an attributor to your own die variety system has its freedoms, but with that comes responsibility. What I see, although initially convincing, is obviously not a repitition of the S that was punched into the die, It is not the right shape - it has an oblong horizontal shape that the mintmark does not have, and it is apparent to me that it is too small to be a mintmark punching. I believe it's in order to say that not every stray mark around a mintmark is an RPM, and this case is a prime example. It's a shame that people are spending so much on what cannot be explained as it is being sold.
What is it? Well, my first response is, "not an RPM." What it is matters a whole lot less. It could be a die gouge, it could be die damage that developed a run toward the rim from it. I've seen this sort of thing in VLDS coins regularly. As for the "remainder" of the curve? Lighting, messing with the photo, imagination - who knows? Deductive reasoning...wrong shape, wrong size - not an RPM.

Looking at the shape and size of the supposed secondary mintmark was immediately convincing to me. It's impossible to change the shape and size of a mintmark punch like that.
