Is this the place to bring my 1883 V-Nickel that I suspect of being a repunched date? I was looking at my old racketeer's nickel over the weekend and found it kinda matches one in The Cherrypicker's Guide FS # 5¢ - 013.7 in that it has the exact same bar within the bottom of the 3, but only has a ghostlike figure of the bar in lower left of first 8. Mine also has doubling below the 1. What should I do with this? Here's large pic:

Was also looking through some other nickels I had and found 1921-s, 1924-s, 1926-s, a 1930 5-legged buffalo (FS#5¢ 017.5) and a 1955-D/S (FS#5¢ 034). Not a bad weekend at all.

Nice clear image Murph. I can remember when you couldn't get an image you liked. Not to up on the Nickels. Got a few, just haven't studied them. Here is a site that should be able to help.

JT posts here sometimes or in chat.

Murph....I agree with Coop....that's a great picture you took there. As far as your 1883 coin goes, it is definitely not 013.7, but it definitely is a repunched date. I have seen a few like that, but I can't attribute any of them because I don't have the books. Coop put a good link there for you to check out. I know JT deals with Jefferson Nickels, but maybe he can help or point you in the right direction for help in attributing your coin.

Good finds, Murph!
Sort of my mantras:
"Take a second look at your coins."
"Varieties: The next frontier of collecting is looking at what you already own."
Many people aren't aware that some of the coins in their collections are varieties. Like me, they assembled date/mm sets. If they would do a little research they might discover what varieties they have.
The work pays off. It did for me... one 1857 FE cent paid for my Cherry Picker's Guide several times over!
