I am new here just came from Coin Talk forum and I just wanted to know a couple of things... Ive been collecting coinage for awhile know but im just starting on Lincolns and Jeffersons... to say the least im really behind... Wink

I just wanted to know.. what it is that you look for when digging through pennys... I know most will only get ms 60+ but im not the picky type I would just like to own a rare even if you can hardly read it.. just to say I own it.. not so i can sell it for a god amount of green paper... Laughing any whooo.. what do you look for... i know about ddo and ddr and rpm.. but im talking more on the lines of how to find it.. what years are the ones to look for... what style what mint is the rare of that year... etc etc.. I have red book 2002 and the new 2005 I also have the krause 2005 coins and prices 14th edition... But i would just like to know what it is i should be looking for heheheh.. I can look at pennys all day but at the end of it im still going to just be looking at pennys... I know some buy bags from the bank to look through and find wheat pennys.. I have a few wheat pennys myself.. What kind of penny should i look for that would be unique that i could keep as a conersation piece...

I hope you can answer my question ive yet to sit down and read a good book that explains everything i need to know about lincolns... hopefully Coppercoins new book will do just that Smile

Mach,
I think you answered your own question! The coppercoins book 'Looking through Lincoln Cents' written by Chuck Daughtrey is exactly what you need. There is detailed information contained in there that tells you what years are better for varieties than others. It will also tell you how well the coins were struck that year, and how rare some coins may or may not be. Besides all that, there is info on die states and many other things. I can assure you that when you get that book, your questions will be answered.

Mack: You could also tour throught the Lincoln Cent images on the site. There you could see examples of DDO and DDRs that other collectors have found. Also the RPMs/DDO and DDR are listed by years. Ask lots of questions, but keep them down to 1 to 2 per post. That way you can get an answer from different ones on the site. Reading through the forum is also a good way to answer questions. It takes a while to get through all the posts, but a lot can be gleaned there. Welcome aboard. Hope this helps. Also if you find an answer that you would like to save, highlight it and copy it to a Word page, that way you could find it faster on your computer.
