At least a very close encounter. At worst a good chance of impacting the earth like the one that hit Sibera in 1908.

Update -- 4-Days and counting.
"Designated 2012 DA14, the space rock is approximately 150 feet (45 meters) across, and astronomers are certain it will zip harmlessly past our planet on February 15—but not before making history. It will pass within the orbits of many communications satellites, making it the closest flyby on record."

My thoughts are it could be a coincidence that a smaller meteor (50ft dia.) just happened to hit a few hours before the larger asteroid (150 dia.) was to make a close fly-by of the earth. But, I am more inclined to think they are related.
I read that, because they came in from different directions - they could not be travelling together. However, if the smaller meteor was also orbiting around the larger asteroid as they travelled together, that would explain the different directions.
This meteor that hit Eastern Russia came screaming in at a little less than 10 times the threshold for hyper-sonic speed (3,750 mph, Mach-5) - some 33,000 mph. I 'd like to see some images of the area it exploded over. I've also read it exploded with the power of at least 20 Hiroshima nuclear bombs. There is still a lot of information to be confirmed about all this.
