I have had a lot of problems with my computer, so thats why I have been off for a while, but I have fixed them, so I am back.

Anyway, when I got the 2004 DDO Nickel of mine from ANACS, I noticed a small clog of debris in the reverse near the edge, and I ignored it. Now, I have started to notice that the area of the coin around the small clog is starting to tone.

I want to crack the coin out and remove the clog with a toothpick or something and sent it back for regrading and encapsulation. My only concern is that I might have to do call ahead of time to make it clear that I want the coin with the 'discovery piece' designation.

Anyone ever had to do this before and any suggestions?

Man, that's a sticky situation, but I'm sure a pre-call to ANACS would take care of it.

Furthermore, I believe if you took photos of a couple of the single coin diagnostics, scratches, dings, or other identifying marks while the coin is in the slab and submitted the photos with the coin, Michael Fahey is very intelligent in picking out stuff like that and will easily be able to determine that the coin submitted came out of that slab.

With prior call, the coin, the broken slab, and photos before the slab was broken, I don't think you'll have a problem reholdering the coin.

Thanks Chuck, thats what I did.

I called ANACS and spoke with the operator, and she told me that she spoke with the main grader and told me to send photos, articles and the cracked slab with the coin. Thats what I did.

The only thing that Im concerned about is that it might come back a grade lower than what I had it before. The coin came graded MS-64 originally, and that was pushing it. It might come MS-63, but atleast it will be preserved and not get ruined from that goo.
