I went through a roll of 1957-D pennies today and found that all but one or two were similar to the one shown on page 177 of Chuck's "Looking Through Lincoln Cents". Here's some photos and a comment or two. The first one shows doubling not only in the D in GOD, but in the W in WE. 48 have the doubling in the D, but only about 8 have the doubling in the W. I wonder if it's machine doubling? There's some very light doubling high up on all the letters in the motto, but none that I could see anywhere else on the coins that didn't look like machine doubling.

Look at the bottom of the W in WE.

Both of the next two photos show cuds or lamination damage. I don't know the precise terminology, but they have a lot of die scratches and damage around the date area. Also, in at least two of the coins, the D mint mark has split serifs? corners. I wonder if it's an RPM or could it just be a damaged punch? I don't think I have a photo of that, but it looks like cracks in the corners of the D and not actual straight line punch marks. In one of these photos it shows one, but you may not see anything but a wider than usual corner.

Murphy:

All you gotta do is read the text on the same page you cited from my book...it's master die doubling, and as you've found, most 1957 cents (both P and D mint) are like that. No premium value.

The first of your bottom two shots is a die break in the upper 9 of the date, and the second is an odd, heavy die gouge. Neither of these have much if any premium value as such, but would make interesting collection conversation pieces.
