After getting a bunch of junk in my last few purchases on Ebay I decided to advertise in a local paper for wheat pennies. Every quack with 3 rolls of wheaties is calling me with the expectation their pennies are much more valuable than they are. I had one guy today he kept on saying things like, "I have one dated 1937, I have another one of those silver things"
Has anyone else tried newspaper ads as an alternative ? How did it work out ?

I used to get many of the cents I searched through newspaper ads. What I did was offer to take that jar or can of peoples pennies at face value plus a few bucks, depending on how much there were. I never advertised 'wheaties only', but ended up getting many anyway. It seemed most folks were just glad to get rid of them. I told them I bought in bulk only and didn't wish to get into specific dates or values. In other words, I offered it as a service, and not like I was looking for something specific. Most folks were glad to make a few bucks, and get rid of something that had been sitting around for years anyway. Different ways work for different people. Sometimes, trial and error is the only way to get what you want.
