I found one like that the other day and thought the same thing. But looking at it under the scope I noticed something I didn't see in hand. There were areas of the toning flaking off the coin. So I came to a conslussion that it was once cleaned and started to peel. Hope that didn't happen to your coin.

This 1927S has and is the most difficult coin to pic. If I lighten it. it changes the appearance so that it looks phont. It really is this dark with neon highlights.
The marks are on the holder. Mike

I am kind of partial to toning on cents as well. I have a few that are almost all purple or green. I will see if I can find them. Both that 54S and 27S are nice though.

I got a bunch that someone took a lighter or candle to and burned colors into. They are crap even though even though there are 1955-S (Were) BU. There are many colors even yellow on them. I found them the other day looking for something else. But if any one want to see images of them I will post. It not they will have hold their smiles for another day.
