Had a few Ikes that I just got back from PCGS and was trying to concentrate long enough to schedule listings on eBay for Sunday but got distracted and somehow ended up louping this 77-D; and its a DDO. Taking a SWAG I would call it Class II, doubling (that I could see) on the bottom of RTY with nicely split serifs and diagonal leg on the R.

CONECA doesn't list any DDO or MDO for this date; I see ANACS has certified three 77-Ds as DDO-001, though. Used to be that if I could tell a coin was a doubled die then it HAD to be something significant because I didn't even have the talent to attribute half the stuff in the CPG, but now I'm kinda to the point where I don't know...it might be cool; it might be this DDO-001; it might be "too minor to mention".

Any suggestions on what to do next?

Roger

Are you trying to attribute it simply as an intellectual exercise? I don't think I've ever seen a doubled Ike for sale as a variety.

I would say it's one of three things if CONECA doesn't list it: 1) as you said, too minor to mention 2) it's master hub doubling or 3) they haven't seen it and you should have them look at your coin.

Roger,

I have a Eisenhower dollar reference book, there is a 1977-D listed as DDO-001. It is class II distorted hub doubling and seen on the serifs of BER of liberty. The reverse has master doubling. Email me if you need a pic. Oh, I'm no Ike Guru either Rolling Eyes

Scott,

Class II doubled serifs BER or RTY sounds close enough to me; I'll just call it that until proven otherwise. Very Happy

Thanks for the help,

ROger
