Sometimes you hit a nice roll. Found 16 nice red 63-65 examples of this 49D in a tubed roll. Obviously the tube was searched for gems yet overlooked for varieties- My kind of roll. Can anyone ID the variety number?

16 must be a good number this month. I found the same number of these last week, all at or near MS65.

Great find guys! Glad to see that you are still finding those nice varieties in good numbers! Just goes to show you that one good find certainly makes up for all the not so good searches. Keep up the good work, and keep posting your great finds!
dpb....I have been looking for one of those for a long time...and you found 16? Great stuff! If you are interested in trading for one of those babies...let me know...OK?

Just curious where you guys bought the rolls that had those beautiful RPMs. I have played with buying coins through newspaper ads vs. Ebay. A lot of my Ebay purchases seemed to be already searched. The coins I bought through the paper were not searched but it is a pain dealing with a lot of people calling to sell a few coins or people that have no idea what their coins are worth and think I am insulting them when I say I can pay $ 2.00 - 3.00 for a BU roll of 1961 pennies. One guy I was talking to about his circulated wheat pennies told me he was going to throw them in the grocery store coin machine instead of selling them to me for 3 cents apiece.

That's just par for the course ... you'll get used to it in time and learn how to head it all off with a phone call or two to the seller.
Then other times, it will be 180 degree's from that, thy will be very pleased at what you may offer, as thy don't know what thy have ...
Welcome to our world ... it has it's up/s and down/s, just like anything else.
Happy hunting.

In response to questions:
Where do these rolls come from? - Mostly Ebay. When I sold my business and moved to a different state I found my old childhood penny collection cleaning out my house. Retired, I had plenty of time to try and finish it. Figured it would make a nice thing to leave to a grandchild. Started buying lots of wheats off ebay but had to purchase the keys(14d, 09svdb, 31s, 55ddo, 22plain) individually. What to do with all these bags of cents? The answer - learn about varieties, search them and try to turn a profit. So far, so good. My best is $207 for a penny I paid 3 cents for. I got tired of all the dirty old pennies and started buying original bank rolls of particular dates I've had the best luck with.
About the 16 1955s: One is listed on ebay, starting at $29.99 which has been matched. I trade with two accounts keyscoin (a new account) and dpb297.
Half are headed to NGC for slabbing.
With the rest I would be inclined to discuss trade or sale. My personal favorite is 1956d FS022.1, a distinctive rpm you could see with the naked eye if your eyes were better than mine. Have one in AU but searching for a better grade.

As an addendum to my previous post:
There are some collectors who gag at a guy who opens bank wrapped rolls. I believe this is an elitist attitude and they can go pound sand for all I care. How else is a variety collector going to find the coins he desires in pristine condition?

I cut open mint bags and rip bak wrappers open all the time. I consider it saving the coins from an otherwise neglected and harsh environment.
BTW, nice 55S...I've found a few of those, but none were in rolls. My consistent roll find in 55S seems to be the all too common RPM#2. The 55S rolls are overpriced and in my opinion way overrated as BU rolls. I usually shy away from them partly because their price is completely unjustified and partly because RPM#1 is hard to find and the rest aren't worth much of anything. No known 1955S doubled dies either.
