Sometimes you see things because you want to see them. This may be an example. Could this be another D ?

It may look like a D mintmark, but it is way to small to be such. It would still have the SIZE of the punch that the mintmark is fromed with.

Looks like a lathe gouge to me. Look inside the 8 for matching gouges.
