I found a bunch of 1958D rpms including this one which I have multiples of. If anyone can help me identify it I'll send you one of the multiples as a thanks. The best marker is the die scratches through the date.

Chuck,
It would be great to see this listed. I will send you this and one of the 1969s rpms that I also posted on the site. I have multiples of both so you can add these to your collection. It is a lot of fun coming up with a new listing. I will try to picture what I think the markers are on both of these since I have multiple versions of each.
Thanks. John

Chuck,
I discovered finding the die markers for the first time is not an easy task. I just sealed the envelope to send you two 1969s rpms. I think it is the same mint mark but it might be two different die states ? One has distinct die scratches that the other does not. I have multiple copies of both so add these to your collection. Hope it is a new one. I also sent the 1958d rpm which has very distinctive die scratches through the date. I had 4 copies of this one. I look forward to seeing what you conclude.

One thing that helps in determining whether two coins are from the same die is to photograph both of them at the same angle with the same light, and match the photos up exactly using photoshop. It places them one on top of the other and allows you to make the "top" layer translucent so you can see through it. If the mintmarks have the same doubling and are in the exact same position, they are probably the same die.
I know of only one case in Lincoln cents where the doubling is the same, the mintmark placement is identical, but they are definitely two different dies. This is determined by markers or absence of markers where they would have to be if the coins were the same die.
The particular case I am referring to is 1960D (no surprise). CONECA listed RPM#18 is being attributed by them to two different dies. NCADD split them years ago when they found that the earlier die state coins had a hump inside the O of GOD and the later die state coins didn't. Natural progression of die state says that's impossible on the same die. Dents can be made into dies, but dents cannot disappear once they are made. NCADD lists them as WRPM-018 and WRPM-152.
