This is a doubled die I picked up recently. It was advertised as DDO #8. Is it that?

Here are some close ups of the doubling.

Yes Garry. That is definitely 1972P die number 8.

Thanks again, Bob, I was looking at the photos of the Die #3 and Die #6 in the Date Guide and they look similar to the #8. Its a nice coin. Raw and all red.

I can understand some of the confusion being that there were 9 different doubled dies that year for the 72P. I compared your pics to one of the die #8s I have. I have all of the 1972P and 1972D varieties with the exception of 72P #2 and #4. I really would like to complete that year variety set. It's pretty strange that I should have the biggie (die #1) but not those two. Oh well....guess I haven't been trying hard enough.

The 72 DDO #1 was the first or second doubled die I ever owned. I bought it raw in 1997 from a dealer going out of business and it in a ms65 red holder now. I saw one at the MidAmerica Coin show last year graded red brown and it had some nice colors in it. I may buy it this year if the dealer still has it.

There are always a couple #2's on ebay.
