I searched through a roll of 1959D cents earlier this week and found some that appear to have doubling on the face / mouth. Most of the doubling on the face I have seen in the past was machine doubling but these look different. Are there examples of DDO's on areas of the face / mouth on other years? I could not find anything for this year so I was looking for another coin to compare to. I will post pictures later when my battery is recharged - mine & the camera !

The doubling of the profile is rather common for a lot of dates, especially in the 30's, 40's and 50's. A lot of this is not machine doubling, but actual master die doubling. I am sure if you go back and look at the forehead/nose/lips on a lot of coins, you will see this. The problem is less prevalent in the 50s, and on memorial cents, but has been known to occur. Of course, there is always the possibility that you may have an actual doubled die and I would need pics to tell for sure. In addition, 1959D is not known for a lot of doubled dies, but there is always the chance that you may have found one. I will wait for you and your batteries to charge Laughing and you take some pics before I can conclusively say what it is.

There are a lot of 40's and 50's era Lincoln's with obvious reduction lathe doubling. Some of these really require a second look because they are so prominent.

This coin also had something in the date on the second 9. Is this die wear or could this be doubling?
