Seems like Billy Crawford and Chuck are gonna make me famous! I found this coin about 1 1/2 months ago, and sent it in to Billy and Chuck for their examination. Billy wrote an article about it, and it it came out in the June 21st edition of Numismatic News. Here is the url for the article. You may have to magnify the screen or change your font setting to read the text.

This is the first variety of any kind reported for 1916S, which makes it so far, a one-of-a-kind. I encourage all of you to please search your 1916S coins to see if we can get a better specimen to examine. If the coin I have remains the only copy, then that makes it worth 75.6 gazillion dollars on Ebay
Anyway, on a more serious note, this is another example of new (or in this case...old) varieties that can still be found; even 89 years after being minted!
My sincerest thanks go out to Billy and Chuck for taking the time to study and confirm my find. It is an excitement that never grows old.

Congrats on not just the find, but the great article and exposure as well. I find it really exciting that varieties are finally getting "noticed" and more and more mainstream. You guys have a lot to do with that. Way to go. John

Bob,
Thanks Bob for allowing me the opportunity to examine your 1916-S Lincoln cent. The pleasure was mine.
Here's a web page I made for closer pics:

I sincerely hope the Numismatic News article will encourage readers and possibly bring to light additional specimen(s).
Thanks again,
Billy G. Crawford
