1960 small date obverse (ODT14)

The first of two 1960 designs and the least common of the two

This change in design arguably created the roll hoarding craze that would pull nearly a quarter of all new cents out of circulation. At the time this ODT change was discovered, very few people had any idea which coins were going to keep value, so they saved literally every roll of new cents they could get their hands on, and this continjued for a number of years to come. In fact, so many rolls were hoarded that the Mint had to act upon it in 1965 so they could keep up with demand. Thee were so many coins hoarded they are STILL common more than 65 years later!
