Restored designer initials obverse (ODT05)

VDB initials on the truncation of the bust at the shoulder.

VDB initials show at the truncation of the bust at the shoulder. This would be the first time Brenner would be recognized for his medallic design work on this popular coin after the quick removal of his initials from the reverse in 1909.

Perhaps not a coincidence, Charles E. Barber passed away in February of 1917, and his decision to remove the designer's initials from the coin was reversed before the next year's production.
