Die Markers through Die Stages

Started by Doug Rezac · Duuug

Firstly I gotta say I Love CoppercoinsV.3 , Great Job Chuck, Eric , Hilda and anyone else responsible. I had bought a coin from a reputable source and was checking it on site for CC`s cross ref as it was listed as 1960 D - Coneca -109 . I actually didn`t see it at first as I was looking at Stage A . After fumbling around abit I went back to CC-109 and checked stage C - LDS. It is like looking at 2 diff. coins. By LDS they filed the hell outa the Die as well as it was falling apart. The Die scratches literally changed direction btwn. the stages never mind the huge Die chips and cracks like the one almost taking off Lincolns head. Through the great photos of the stages and the on spot cross refs I was able to add this to my collection knowing the proper Die designation. Back in the 60`s we were lucky to have a magnifying glass never mind a microscope to look and figure out coins. This hobby has grown exponentially since those days due to the internet and hard working people in the field like these guys and others which makes it as exciting as when I was a kid- Just didn`t know what you had back then , lol.
Penny sniffer since 1965 ish but back in serious mode since 21. Time and info make this a productive hobby.
Doug,
I absolutely agree that the photos for the different die stage markers are awesome! And yes this hobby has come a long way with the technology and information available to us!
