Engraved designs (ODT / RDT)
Design types are the engraved designs prepared for Lincoln cents. CopperCoins catalogs them as obverse design types (ODT) and reverse design types (RDT), each with year scopes. Dies carry two separate links — one for each side — and pairing is free.
Design types are not die varieties (doubled dies, RPMs) and are not the same as mint mark styles.

When designs create year alternatives
Design varieties occur when a design is used in a year where it was not intended, or when two or more intended designs are used within the same year. CopperCoins records those collectible alternatives by year (and proof vs. business strike where needed).
