This one year type is known to some as the 1974 Large date design. It is the only year that uses this design, with it's thick lettering and rounded date. It is believed that these came first in the run, with the small date following, however the Smithsonian example of the Aluminum cent used the next design, ODT21, which is known as the "later" small date. Something does not add up with that.
