This design type has much more to do with the shape of the first two characters of the date than anything else. It is important to remember that the19 of the date was a part of the master hub, placed into the galvano (in the early years) as a place holder for where the date is to be engraved. Effectively, a change in the shape of those first two digits of the date is a change in the design.
