Value guides explained

Variety Value Guide vs. Series Price Guide — which to use when

(sponsored)

CopperCoins publishes two different kinds of pricing guidance. They answer different collector questions and pull from different data. Using the right guide saves time and avoids comparing apples to oranges.

At a glance

Guide What it prices When to use it
Variety Value Guide Individual die varieties (doubled dies, RPMs, etc.) by grade. You have identified a cataloged die number and want approximate market values for that specific variety.
Series Price Guide Regular-issue Lincoln cents by date and mint (normal coins, not die varieties). You collect by date/mint set and need common-coin pricing, not attribution-level varieties.

Variety Value Guide (per die)

Values live on each die page and in the searchable Variety Value Guide index. Each row is one cataloged die marriage with prices by grade (G through MS, plus proof grades when applicable).

  • Data comes from CopperCoins editorial value tables tied to die_values in the catalog.
  • Not every die has every grade filled in — rare or newly listed dies may show gaps.
  • Hover the value area on a die page to read the value guide disclaimer; figures are references, not buy/sell quotes.
  • My Coppercoins Market report sums these catalog values for coins you have logged at a given grade.

Series Price Guide (by date and mint)

The Series Price Guide covers normal Lincoln cents struck for circulation (and selected proof issues) without die-variety attribution. It is organized by year + mint + grade, not by die number.

  • Use it for registry sets, date/mint collections, and “what is a 1943-S cent worth in VF?” questions.
  • It does not replace die-level pricing for doubled dies, RPMs, or other cataloged varieties.
  • Availability on the public site will occur when we can finish all the algorithms that build the guide, one part of this being simply time to allow for comparisons in value changes. Expected to be published by October 15th.

Which guide should I open?

  • I found doubling or an RPM → identify the die in search, then read values on the die page or Value Guide.
  • I am filling a date/mint album with normal coins → Series Price Guide (when enabled).
  • I own a cataloged variety in My Coppercoins → Variety Value Guide values power your Market report; Series Price Guide does not apply to attributed varieties.
